Less is the Answer

I finished reading “Simplicity Parenting” by Kim John Payne and one piece of his book struck me.
“In researching her book Born to Buy, sociologist Juliet Schor found that the average American child receives seventy toys a year.”
Seventy toys….in 365 days.
That’s almost six toys a month, or one plus new toy each week..
To me, this seems excessive and expensive...
When I read this statement I hear how much excess we bring into our home and lives.
If you are honored with the title of “parent”, “caregiver”, or “guardian” we are overstimulating our children.
I write openly about minimalism and living with less.
Owning, buying, and consuming less has brought more health, happiness, and wellness into my and my families life.
Our current world is great at manipulating and selling us anything and everything - kids toys and beyond.
We make an impulsive purchase for a quick dopamine hit and within days (sometimes hours), the item is a product of our discontent.
One click purchasing has filled our homes, minds, and hearts to a breaking point.

We need less stuff and more time with loved ones.
We need less fast food and more home cooked meals with real ingredients.
We need less screen time and more time outside.
We need less hate and more love.
More isn’t the answer. Less is.
TANCKS for reading.
