Re-Frame Our Perspective

Most of us are spending more time at home surrounded by our loved ones due to the state of our world.
The “stay at home” campaign has many of us navigating life differently.
Some are working from home.
Some are stepping into the teacher role.
Some are risking their lives going into work healing, treating, and serving others.
Some are finding new ways to connect while staying true to the social distancing protocols.
Some are experimenting and finding different, creative ways to generate income.
Some might be enjoying their time at home while others feel the walls are closing in on them.
We are all coping with this change very differently.
I would like to offer a mental re-frame for some thoughts that might have surfaced.
Instead of, “I am forced to stay inside”
Try “I am safe in my home.”
Instead of “I have to work from home.”
Try “I get the opportunity to work from home and earn an income to support myself and my family.”
Instead of “When is this madness going to be over?”
Try “How I can offer support to those in need?”
Instead of “This is a huge inconvenience for my future plans.”
Try “I am granted the opportunity to plan again and enjoy the process.”
Instead of “This is the worst thing to happen to me and the world.”
Try, “What am I to learn from this? How can I grow from this experience?”
We all can get caught in the a negative way of thinking, but I gently invite us to catch our thoughts in the beginning phases and see if we can re-frame our thinking.
If negative thoughts continue to circulate, talk with someone you know, trust, and love and lean on them for support.
Other ideas to get out of our heads include:
-Going for a walk outside.
-Playing uplifting music.
-Call or video chat with a loved one.
-Move your body (any form of exercise is wonderful).
-Write a gratitude list.
We will get through this, together.
Let’s support one another and love one another during this season.
